Dr Hatice Yıldız is a Lecturer in Modern Gender History since 1750 at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. She is affiliated with both the Centre for the Study of Modern and Contemporary History and the Edinburgh Centre for Global History.  Her research interests lie at the intersection of gender, economic and social histories of South Asia and the Middle East. They include:

She is currently working on a monograph which explores the ways in which gendered notions of skill, paid work, domesticity and technology shaped labour processes and politics in the silk factories of Bursa and the cotton mills of Bombay between 1850 and 1910. Hatice’s recent outputs include:
