Three Minute Records: Case Studies in Popular Music

In this course students will learn to apply theories and approaches relevant to popular music studies via in-depth study of particular artists, eras, genres and/or styles, etc. in popular music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will choose their own areas of research focus (artist, genre/style, development, etc.) and will learn to consider these topic(s) using relevant scholarship, theories, and approaches. These will include but are not limited to: genre studies, ethnomusicology, critical race theory, gender studies, technology, and aspects of aesthetic theory.   Credit level: 10 Year taken: Year 4 Undergraduate SCQF credits: 20
